Security Company and CSO of the Year Named
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SC Magazine, the monthly for IT security professionals, has paid tribute to the information-security practitioners, organizations and vendors that are working to safeguard critical data from today's ever-aggressive cyber criminal. The Haymarket Media magazine presented awards in 29 categories at the 10th annual SC Magazine Awards gala, held on Feb. 6, in conjunction with the RSA Conference in San Francisco.
Watchfire Corp., of Waltham, Mass., took the most honors, winning three Excellence Awards, including Best Security Company. It was followed by Fortinet, Inc., of Sunnyvale, Calif., which received two Reader Trust Awards.
Dennis Brixius, vice president and chief security officer of The McGraw-Hill Companies, was honored as Chief Security Officer of the Year, for taking a forward-thinking approach to establishing a complete information- security program to protect the property rights of the company, ensure business continuity, protect the privacy of customers and help the company to effectively serve its global customers and markets.
The Editor's Choice Award was presented to the Vulnerability Analysis and Operations Group, part of the National Security Agency's Information Assurance Directorate, in recognition of its efforts to provide security-setting recommendations to both private and public entities for Microsoft's new Vista operating system and the development of security standards for vulnerability naming and identification, alongside various other initiatives proving helpful to better secure corporations and government agencies of all sizes.

Winners of 20 Reader Trust Awards were based on voting by more than 9,000 SC Magazine readers. The competition's Professional and Excellence Awards were judged by a panel of 17 chief security officers at major corporations.
