Bedford-based RSA Security Inc. has sewn up the wireless handheld game market, winning a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. to provide a secure environment for software title developers and publishers creating game titles for its new PlayStationPortable handheld game system.
Financial details of the deal were not released.
Just last month RSA announced a similar deal with Sony’s biggest competitor in the handheld game space, Nintendo Co. Ltd., to provide security software products for its Nintendo DS portable.
Both Sony and Nintendo have licensed RSA BSafe Secure Sockets Layer and public-key infrastructure products to provide secure connection between devices while players are connecting wirelessly to play head-to-head or in larger interactive environments.
The RSA security products will be used to both prevent the theft of the intellectual property of the various game developers but also to stop the identity theft of the handheld owners and game users.
RSA Security stock began trading this morning at $16.44, up 10 cents from its close yesterday afternoon.
