Cisco Systems Security Summit 2004 to Focus on Self-Defence

| 1 Comment

The agenda will examine in detail every aspect of IP and network security, covering issues like specific perimeter systems, network loopholes, endpoint security and best practices, to help decision-makers plan and build self-defending networks.

The summit will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from April 12-13, and in Singapore from April 14-15.

The major theme of the event is Self-Defending Networks, focusing on the need to adopt an integrated, holistic approach to combat the new generation of blended attacks.

"Threats posed to networks are increasing fast and becoming more sophisticated, making it much more important than ever to secure every single component of networks, from perimeter to desktop - detecting malicious activities to prevent attacks before they can cause any damage," said Craig Gledhill, Managing Director, Singapore, Cisco Systems. "The holistic approach is essential because if you overlook one single aspect of network security, that becomes the weakest link in your network."

One of the highlights of the Summit is a keynote presentation by Cisco Systems' CIO, Brad Boston. As well as sharing his experience in managing the security of Cisco's global network, he will outline a roadmap for combating vulnerabilities and share how Cisco's self-defence network initiative has been applied to Cisco's own intergrated voice/data/video infrastructure.

Other highlights of the Security Summit are:

* Dealing with the Mob:
How to deal with blended attacks -- email, P2P software, HTTP, Instant Messaging, etc., -- at an individual and corporate level.

* Securing the Loose Ends:
How to ensure end clients do not become a back door to the corporate network. This session deals with central policy management of anti-virus, patch management, as well as SSL VPNs and IPSEc VPNs.

* Building Trust in the Air:
The state of the art of wireless LAN security technology and how to implement Wireless Protected Access (WPA) and 802.1x authentication.

In addition to Brad Boston, the international line-up of speakers includes some of the world's leading authorities in security technologies, including Bill Hancock, Chief Security Officer of Cable & Wireless; Khoong Hock Yun, the Assistant Chief Executive of Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore; Robert Richardson, the Editorial Director of the Computer Security Institute; plus security specialists from Cisco Systems, Network Associates, HP, IBM and Ernst & Young.
